Francis
He was a kid. Never a scrawny guy, but soooo young when we first crossed paths. I always thought Francis was an unlikely friend. He's Ghanaian, LOVES football (we call it soccer here in the US) and was passionately athletic. None of those things describe me. But somehow, we connected. I think maybe the common thread between us was a work ethic that equalled going at any task assigned as diligently as though our lives depended on it. I know for fact that Francis takes great great pleasure in really pushing himself to the limits at anything he's given. When he and his bride-to-be approached me to officiate their wedding, it was like leveling up or something. Here I was, assuming I'm just some goof stumbling through life and I discover that someone thinks I'm serious enough to deliver their wedding talk, essentially kicking off the rest of their life together. Heavy stuff. I regret that we don't have the opportunity these days to bike and kayak together anymore. He's still a fantastic friend even if he is buys living his life while I'm busy living mine.
